We have a group of “core organizers” who meet on a regular basis (usually once a month), to share news and ideas for projects, organize events, and do other association work.
When & Where
Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of every month, starting at 7 pm, at the Big Red Church (127 Cobourg Ave). We normally meet in the Ladies’ Lounge, which is up the stairs, first door on the left.
How to Participate
As a fellow Glenelmer, there are three ways you can participate in these meetings:
1. As a core group member
The core group is open to anyone in the neighbourhood who would like to participate. Given that everyone is a volunteer, we share the work by operating on a lead-your-idea basis, meaning if you have a great idea you’d like GeNA to take on, you’ll be expected to lead the project, with the other members of the group helping out as needed.
You don’t need to lead a project or subcommittee to participate, you can always help out on an existing project or subcommittee that you care about.
You can send a message through the contact form to be added to the group’s mailing list to receive meeting reminders. Note: your email address will be shared with the other members of the group.
2. As a presenting guest
If you’ve got an idea, concern, or information you’d like to share without participating as an ongoing core group member, you can register as a presenting guest (see below, #4 on a typical agenda). We hear these at the beginning of the meeting, so that presenters who are unable to (or don’t want to) stay to the end of the meeting don’t have to.
If you want to register, make sure to do so by the Sunday preceding the meeting so you can be added to the agenda. You can register by sending a message through the contact form.
3. As an observer
If you just want to quietly observe the meeting without participating, you can do that too! All meetings are open to the Glenelm public. Normally, there is no need to register, but you’re welcome to send us a message through the contact form if you have any questions in advance of attending.
How Meetings Work
We try to keep things loose and friendly, but as we have grown in size over the years, we’ve found it helpful to follow an agenda in order to keep things flowing smoothly. Below is the typical agenda we follow.
Typical Agenda
1. Welcome and Land Acknowledgment
2. Approve Agenda
3. Approve Minutes of Previous Meeting
4. Presentations from Guests
5. Debrief of Recent Events
6. Planning of Upcoming Events
7. Subcommittee Reports and Information Sharing
8. Adjournment
Have Questions?
