Make your way about the neighbourhood as you take in a handful of front-porch concerts for the 2022 edition of Meandering Music in Glenelm. Inspired by the idea of a progressive dinner party, this event will take you from one porch to the next for half-hour musical performances. Bring your lawn chair and clap along to music in the key of (G)lenelm.
It’s official – for a third year, Glenelm is banding together against cankerworms!
The neighbourhood tree banding campaign is now underway, so watch your mailbox for a green flyer like the one above!
It will give you the name of your block captain and info about how tree banding helps to prevent cankerworm infestations, which can completely defoliate trees in just a couple of weeks.
While their leaves will grow back, trees are weakened and less able fight off disease and other insect pests. Plus, walking through webs of silk and slippery cankerworm poop is really unpleasant. (Remember the “wormageddon” we had in Glenelm in 2019? That’s what we are trying to prevent.)
You can pay for your banding order by:
Interac eTransfer to GeNA (auto-deposit; no security Q&A required)
Cheque to GeNA
In 2020 (our first year doing a coordinated neighbourhood-wide campaign), we banded over 600 trees. Last year, we banded almost 900, which included all the boulevard trees and many in the parks, too. Let’s see if we can get even better coverage this year!
Watch for a flyer in your mailbox in the next week. Orders are due August 31. Questions? Please email trees [at] glenelm [dot] ca.
Big thanks to all the block captains who are volunteering their time & energy for this project!
The big screen will be coming to Roxy (Elmwood) Park on Saturday, August 27th! Come out and enjoy one of the last nights of summer to see a family movie on a giant 29-foot screen….we’ll even have free popcorn and drinks (while supplies last)!
You voted, and the winning title is… The Bad Guys! (Poll results: The Bad Guys 44%, Encanto 30%, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 14%, Ron’s Gone Wrong 12%)
The movie will begin at sunset — approx 8:30pm, so bring your own bowl for popcorn, lawn chairs and/or cozy blankets, bug spray, and stake out your viewing spot before then. Park bathrooms will be open.
Thanks to our sponsor, David & Chris Unruh, Century 21 Bachman & Associates, for making this event possible!
