Help Trim the Community Christmas Tree!

A message from the Big Red Church at 127 Cobourg:

There is a tall Christmas tree sitting in front of The Big Red Church and we (those who are from the church) invite the Glenelm community members to come and put an ornament on the tree (home made or purchased) to signify the unity we have at this time … even though we cannot gather together! Enjoy the walk over, placing of the ornament on the tree and remembering that we are stronger together as a community than how Covid has kept us apart!

Upcoming event: 2021 Glenelm Snow Sculpture Challenge

Guess what? This is the event that COVID couldn’t cancel!!

Yes, that’s right, the Snow Sculpture Challenge is back for a 4th year on Saturday, January 30, 2021 — and we’re hoping that more people than ever will join in the fun!

Given this year’s pandemic restrictions, this is one of the rare events which can still take place “in real life”. Since everyone sculpts from their own front yard, no gatherings are necessary! In addition, it provides neighbours a much-needed excuse to get outside and take that (socially-distanced) walk for mental health to view all of the lovely sculptures. Plus you could win one of dozens of neat participation prizes.

So…mark your calendars for January 30th and start dreaming about your snowy creations. To see pictures from past events and get more info, visit glenelm.ca/snow/

Pssst….. if Santa brings you anything in a large cardboard box this year… flatten the box and save it to use as a form for your block of snow.

As always, a huge thanks to our sponsors for making the event possible!

Elmwood Cemetery News

Historic Elmwood Cemetery is a favourite place of many Glenelm folks, and we’re appreciating it more than ever as a great space to take a socially distanced walk or bike ride. We love the peaceful atmosphere and how well-maintained and cleared the paths are.

Did you know that the Cemetery puts out a regular newsletter? It’s a great way to keep up with the wonderful work being done to preserve and plant trees in this beautiful space (like the Adopt-a-Tree program), and it also features interesting profiles of the people buried here and special initiatives happening at the cemetery.
